Yin Yoga is a slower-paced style of yoga - focused on 'innercising' the body - mind - emotion - soul, incorporating principles of traditional Eastern philosophy and medicine, with asanas (postures) that are held for longer periods of time than in other styles of yoga. Yoga practitioners in the yin approach/ style may stay in one asana/pose hold for anywhere from 3-5 min or more. The sequences of postures are meant to stimulate the inner energy channels of the subtle body known as meridians in Chinese medicine and as nadis in Hatha yoga. Yin Yoga poses apply moderate stress to the connective tissues of the body—the tendons, fascia, and ligaments—with the aim of increasing circulation in the joints and improving flexibility. A more meditative approach to yoga, its goals are awareness of inner silence, and bringing to light a universal, interconnecting quality. In Yin Yoga we are looking to connect and activate the Chi - Life Source (Energy) - Prana to flow through the body without blockages.
