Course Outline

Summary Outline & Hours for each of the Following:

Anatomy & Physiology (40h) : Functional anatomy and physiology. How to apply anatomy and biomechanics to yoga poses and practice. How to apply your anatomy learning to advance your asanas. Observing and understanding bodies in yoga poses.

Study of Asanas (40h) : Meaning behind asana systems. Essentials of asana practice – breath, foundation, general form, primary energy flows, and refinements of poses. Better alignment in practice. How to practice with an injury.

Study of Pranayama (25h) : Pranayama (breathing exercises) & introduction to meditation.

Study of Energy Systems (20h)

Study of Energy Bodies (20h)

Yoga Philosophy (25h) : History of Yoga – major schools and movements. History and traditions related to modern yoga. Origins of modern yoga. Comparative study of yoga philosophy – Classical, Advaita Vedanta, Tantra. Complete Bhagavad Gita introduction & study.

Teaching Methodology (30h) : The art of teaching yoga. How to effectively sequence a yoga practice or class. How to modify practice to make it easier or harder. Purpose and use of props. Restorative poses. How we categorize postures (e.g. standing poses, hip openers, arm balances, backbends, inversions, twists, and seated postures) and how we string them together. How or whether to touch students and when to use adjustments

Module 2
This module will be a combination of LIVE virtual sessions, pre-recorded lessons, self-study and an intensive in-person retreat*.

*The intensive in-person retreat is planned to make-up any lost hours to complete the 200 hour teacher training certification and therefore ensure that students will be able to graduate in September. Please note that the virtual classes can move to IN PERSON training depending on the government’s Public Health and Safety announcements.
