2) Personal + Business Responsibilities: branding yourself, creating your bio and elevator speech, email marketing, studio professionalism, business professionalism, liability and insurance responsibilities, bookkeeping obligations, CRA contacts. 10hrs
3) Ethics: yamas + niyamas, student-teacher relationships, abuse of power in the yoga world, trauma sensitive teaching, body positivity. Creating community with inclusion, welcoming environment, safety, creating non-competitive space, teaching to different groups - seniors, young students, different race. Creating comfort and focusing on the student experience. New teachers and self-care as well as continuing your practice as a student and when to refer out. 15hrs
4) Teaching Methodology: prioritizing the spine, categories of asanas, hip and core strengtheners, tempo + pacing of class, benefits of the heat, safety in the heat. 12hrs
5) Anatomy, Physiology, Biomechanics: major muscles, bones + joints. Muscle pairs and muscle movement terminology. Spinal bones and large muscles. Core anatomy. Shoulder girdle, pelvic girdle and pelvic floor. Body systems. Common spinal conditions, sciatica, piriformis syndrome. Written anatomy exam with an 80% passing grade. 7hrs
6) Vinyasa: the history of yoga, K Patthabi Jois & the origins of Vinyasa. Surya Namaskar translation, the deeper purpose of, the history and symbolism, cautions and alignments, sequences and variations. Pranayama and Ujjayi breathing. Practice teaching. 30hrs
7) Pilates: Joseph Pilates & the 6 pilates principles and benefits. Types of exercise, types of movement, tabata, heart rate and EPOC, active recovery, pilates breathing, class timing, exercises and sequencing. Practice teaching. 30hrs
