School Info

Yin and mindfulness teacher training as well as yoga retreats both in Canada and abroad, weekend and weekday workshops and classes online and in studio in yin yoga, mindfulness meditation, restorative yoga and Deep Rest. The teacher trainings, workshops, classes and retreats will be taught by Debra Black, who has completed a 500 hour training with Sarah Powers and the Insight Yoga Institute which included studies with Paul Grilley and Bernie Clark. She also has completed a mindfulness meditation course with Jack Kornfield and Tara Brach. She is a CYA- E-RYT-550

Course Outline

Level 1 Yin and Mindfulness Meditation This is a 50 hour program that will explore Yin Yoga -- through the lens of Anatomy, focusing on the skeleton and the fascia, as well as Meridian theory from Traditional Chinese Medicine and the Chakra system. We will dive deep into postures as well as Buddhist philosophy and pyschology and learn to integrate and incorporate mindfulness meditation into a yin practice as well as explore teaching methodology. There will be required reading and homework and practice teaching. Prerequisite: a previous yoga teacher training or two years of a solid yoga (preferably yin) practice. Course will be conducted online via Zoom this spring over the last three weekends of April and the first weekend of May from 9am until 2pm. It will be live with plenty of room for questions and interaction and practice. You can take the training from the comfort of your home or studio. A PDF manual will be sent to each student. But the course isn't just for teachers, students can take it to really deepen their understanding of yin.

Level 2 Yin and Mindfulness Meditation: This is a 50 hour course that will continue looking at mindfulness meditation, expanding on the Four Foundations of Mindfulness with Buddha's Anapanasatti meditation teachings, the RAIN method of meditation as practiced by Jack Kornfield and Tara Brach as well as Buddhist philosophy and psychology, Taoist thought and other forms of breath-work and visualizations. Students will learn how to incorporate these elements into teaching a yin class. There will be required reading, homework and practice teaching. Prerequisite: Level 1 Yin and Mindfulness or a previous yin yoga teacher training. The course will be live and interactive online via Zoom. It will take place over three weekends in February 2021. A PDF manual will be sent to each student. Continuing Education Credits are available. This course isn't just for teachers. It can be taken by interested students who have a dedicated yin and meditation practice and want to learn more. For more information contact
