About Me

My name is Tami.
First and foremost, I am a mother of two children. Following the tragic car accident and fatality of my teenage daughter, I was spiritually driven to make sense of my grief and loss and ventured to Bali, Indonesia in August of 2014. I have been a student of yoga for 26 years and I traveled to Bali with no intention to teach. This immersive adventure in a 200 hour, teacher training program was prolific in deeply understanding the nuances of my loss and choice to embrace the beauty of life going forward. In fact, the training was one of the most significant education experiences of my lifetime. I think a great deal about resilience and I believe strongly that resilience and rising up from the ashes, so to speak, comes down to choice and a shift in perspective. As well as family, community and finding a spiritually driven purpose. From this experience, The Loft Yoga and Therapy was born in 2017.

My formal education includes a Bachelor of Physical Education from the University of Calgary. I began my studies of Bachelor of Physiotherapy in Australia and completed it at The University of Alberta in 1994. I’ve been a self employed Clinical Physiotherapist ever since with special interests in women’s health, custom made orthotics and foot care, the root cause of injury and sports injuries. Following graduation, I pursued a year under the guidance of Dr. Steven Aung with studies in Traditional Chinese Medicine Acupuncture. I combine acupuncture obtained through Dr. Aung, The Canadian Acupuncture Foundation and Dr. Gunn IMS training with my manual based therapy. I was very fortunate to be the team therapist for The Canadian National Swim Team at the Commonwealth Games held in Victoria in 1994.

I’ve self funded my education and also self funded travel to 45 countries, with a decade of work in Nepal, guiding almost one hundred people paired with several philanthropic efforts. The highlight of this work surrounds several fundraisers including the Sir Edmund Hillary Foundation, putting our guides through climbing and trekking schools, creating sustainable business practices for our guides and building a school near a town called Gudel in the Solu region of Nepal.

I’ve taught three International yoga retreats in Bali, Indonesia and Costa Rica, grief retreats in Medicine Hat, Alberta and have facilitated other treks in the jungle of Costa Rica and the West Coast Trail of British Columbia.

I love this one wild and precious life!
