About Me

In 2011, I took the teacher training program at Swami Vishnu Yoga Centre with Nitya Kandath. Now, almost 6 years later, I am still regularly practicing and teaching at Martial Concepts MMA dojo in Odessa and for Loyalist Township. I encourage students at the center to explore themselves through all eight limbs and learn what yoga truly is.

I currently specialize in Hatha, Restorative, Family and Sivinanda styles of Yoga. I teach both privately and in group settings.

No matter the age, experience or abilities of my student; it is my mission to make everyone feel comfortable and like they belong. Using the Yogic teachings of compassion and non-judgement, I strive to touch the heart of every student in some way.

Confident in my natural intuition to work the room, I use subtle touch, keen awareness of facial expressions, body language and listening for changes in breath to aid Average Joe students. Humour or even a glance can be enough to uplift the students during challenging moments in class.

3) Energy and Personality
Students often comment that I show great warmth with the way I teach, while others say I bring a light heart and sense of humor. Ideally I bring all those qualities to the table. I do strive each day for my energy to be focused, calm, centered, and enthusiastic.

4) Preparation
I always have a plan for each Yoga class to best facilitate fun, learning and body confidence for all who attend. Knowing each day is unique, I arrive early, talk to students, and create a peaceful environment where students are welcome to share what their bodies most need in the moment.

5) Personalized Attention
Average Joe Yoga lives by it's motto, "Yoga for EveryBODY". Private and Semi-Private on-line or in person programs help cater to all. Whether you are interested certain style, addressing unique body issues, or simply the ability to practice at your own pace; I am sensitive to your needs. Personalized and small group Yoga offerings are my specialty!

6) Flexibility
Flexibility is important not just for your body. Although I come to class with a plan, I always teach based on my audience. My intuition is always required, to listen and care for my students even if they are not directly giving you feedback. I often tease that I teach by facial expression ;) Even amidst challenging flows or postures; noBODY should look like they are enduring bootcamp. I truly feel that I never got in shape any faster by being hard on myself and, I share that tenant with my students.

7) Physicality
The best way to lead is by example and, a daily Yoga practice of my own makes me a better teacher. At 42 I don’t have to be the most gifted physically (seriously, no more handstand push-up!) but I do have an understanding of movement, alignment and anatomy, physiology and pathophysiology.

8) Love of Yoga
I ♡ YOGA! Yoga aims to improve the mind, body, and spirit. I love what they do, and believe that feeling is transferred into Average Joe students as well.

9) Attention to Detail
Sometimes simple adjustments are needed, and sometimes bad habits need to be kicked to the side. Additionally we all differ anatomically as well as in our strengths; therefore not all poses look the same in EveryBODY. I watch my students, making sure no one is going to get injured and that everything is executed properly for their BODY. I find that by creating a safe injury free environment I have happier students.

10) Service with Purpose
My purpose at Average Joe Yoga is not just to teach. I want to improve, and I want to inspire! I offen fond that a simple explanation of the medical benefits of postures or variations for people with injuries or varying physical abilities can go a long way in demonstrating how my knowledge and intrest in the lastest Yoga Research and Science can help my students realize the benefits of a life long Yoga journey ♡
