Yoga for Emotional Balance: Simple Practices to Heal Anxiety, Depression, & Chronic Stress
All Levels, Therapeutics, Teacher Training
The World Health Organization estimates that by 2030, depression will be our highest global disease burden. How can yoga help change this trajectory? Our current paradigm of healing favors intense, physically and mentally challenging practices. Yet lasting positive change also requires subtle practices that build in a progressive sequence over time. When we integrate the principles and practices of the yoga, yoga therapy, and mindfulness traditions, we have the strongest chance of ending the epidemics of anxiety and depression. Drawing from emerging research in neuroscience, we?ll learn how to work in concert with the neural principles that create change. We?ll explore the five primary interventions for healing anxiety and depression, and learn how to optimize the body?s role in emotional transformation. We?ll experience the integration of breathing exercises, postural adjustments, mindful asana practice, restorative postures, and other therapeutic elements that will balance our nervous system, quiet our mind, energize our body, regulate our emotions, and create the building blocks for lasting change.
